Kevin Roberts has hailed the training regime of Wrexham boss Sam Ricketts as the Dragons continue building up to the new season in little under a month’s time.

Wrexham kick off an 11th season in the Conference with a trip at Dover Athletic on Saturday, August 4, their longest away game of the campaign.

Before then the Dragons will head to Portugal for a pre-season training camp before friendly matches with Louletano, Bangor City , AFC Telford, Macclesfield and Forest Green.

The Dragons have so far won both their opening pre-season encounters – 2-1 at Lex XI and most recently 2-0 at Airbus UK on Saturday .

And right-back Roberts has been impressed with the way Ricketts has managed the players in their two weeks back in training.

“We started off, not slowly, but the gaffer has built us up in to pre-season which in my eyes is the right thing to do,” said Roberts.

“Some managers, as soon as you come back they blast you and you are crying out for the (risk of) injuries, so it has been a really good start and I am sure he will crank it up in Portugal.”
