Vanarama National League South side East Thurrock United can look forward to a prestige home clash against Football League club Colchester United in the Quarter-Finals of the BBC Essex Senior Cup.
Three goals from striker Sam Higgins helped the Rocks to a 6-1 victory over Bowers & Pitsea in the Fourth Round, which propelled them into the draw for the last eight at BBC Essex’s Chelmsford studios on Wednesday (7th December). This saw them paired with United, who overcame Witham Town at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
Essex County FA Chief Executive Phil Sammons pulled out the home teams while Glenn Speller from the BBC Essex Sports Team was responsible for the aways. There were nine clubs in the hat, with one more match to round-up between Thurrock and Braintree Town. The victors from that clash travel to Chelmsford City, who were comfortable victors at Barking.
Elsewhere in the draw, 2011 winners Billericay Town, who recorded a decent 2-0 victory at in-form Brightlingsea Regent, host Tilbury, conquerors of Harlow Town on sudden death penalties. Last year’s runners-up Heybridge Swifts are looking to go one better in 2017 and their next hurdle is Basildon United, the lowest-ranked team left in the competition from the Essex Senior League who have remained in the cup ever since the First Round.
