Gateshead have announced the loan signing of Rotherham United defender Jake Cooper on an initial one-month loan deal.
The 18-year-old signed his first professional deal with the Millers in June 2019, and has made three appearances for the club in the Leasing.com Trophy this season.
The centre-back has also been involved in the Republic of Ireland’s youth squads at international level.
“I’m delighted to be here,” Cooper told gateshead-fc.com.
“I’ve been speaking to Josh, I’ve been in close contact about the club and how he’s been finding it, and he’s been really enjoying it.
“He’s said that the gaffer and all of the lads are great so I’m excited to be here, and I’m looking forward to getting some minutes under my belt and hopefully some good performances.”
The 18-year-old believes that making the move to Tyneside is the ‘next step’ in his playing career, having been a part of Rotherham’s academy setup since 2015.
“Men’s football is going to be a challenge but it’s what I need for the next step in my career,” he continued.
“I think I’ll be able to learn a lot from the gaffer, and from the other players in general. I think I’ll be able to learn and take things on board, hopefully to improve my own game.”
