Tranmere Rovers manager Micky Mellon says that he and his squad have utilised the enforced two-week break between fixtures to good effect.

He told Tranmere PlayerHD: “We’ve been using the time between games to work on the things we think we need to bring us success. We have made a lot of good use of the time we’ve had available and the players have worked very hard.

“It has been good to reflect on the 15 games I’ve been in charge, see where we are at just now and where we need to work on and get better at.”

Looking ahead to this weekend’s Buildbase FA Trophy tie at home against South Park, the manager says that preparations for the fixture have been no different to those for a league game.

The opposition, who play in the Ryman League Division One South, will be the underdogs for the tie and the manager says they are certainly not taking them lightly.

He added: “We’re expected to win on Saturday and so we’ll go into the game with that mentality.

“We’re not looking beyond this game, we’re well prepared, we’ve given South Park every bit of respect which they deserve for getting to this stage of the competition and we know it’s going to be a tough game.”
