Tranmere Rovers midfielder Jeff Hughes will be stepping onto the turf at Wembley Stadium for the first time when he lines up against Forest Green Rovers in the National League Promotion Final on Sunday afternoon.

The Northern Irish international missed out on a previous opportunity to play at the national stadium through injury, and says he now can’t wait to get the chance to play there.

He said: “I’m very excited, I missed the last opportunity when I was injured at Fleetwood Town so I’m delighted to get to Wembley now.

“We’ve tried to keep the preparations this week the same as for any other game, the only difference is travelling a day earlier to get us settled in and have a feel of the place.

“I’ve played at some big grounds in the past but nothing that quite compares to the national stadium.

“The fact we’ll have a lot of fans at the game will be taken as a help rather than a hindrance. My message to the Super White Army would be to make as much noise as you can and hopefully we’ll deliver for you on the day.”
