Tranmere Rovers have signed former Portsmouth defender Adam Buxton on a permanent deal until the end of the season.
The 24-year-old, who can play anywhere across the defence, joined the Fratton Park outfit at the beginning of the season after leaving Accrington Stanley.
Having come through the ranks at Wigan Athletic, Buxton initially joined Stanley on loan at the end of the 2013-14 season.
Having impressed during that spell, and with first team opportunities limited at The Latics, he made a permanent move to The Crown Ground where he impressed with his tenacious performances in the Stanley defence.
Mellon said of the signing: “I’m delighted to be able to bring Adam to the Club. He is a player we have watched closely.
“He is a strong defender who will add to our options at this important stage of the season.
“He’s only 24 years of age but he has good experience in the Football League which I think will add to what we already have at the Club.”
