Tranmere Rovers drew 1-1 at Macclesfield Town on Saturday afternoon in the first leg of the Buildbase FA Trophy semi-final.

The two-legged affair is evenly poised ahead of next Saturday’s return at Prenton Park (3:00pm kick-off) after Jeff Hughes’ early penalty was cancelled out by Ollie Norburn in the second half.

Manager Micky Mellon declared himself pleased to be taking the tie back to Prenton Park withe the scores level.

He told Tranmere PLayer HD: “There’s still work to be done, but we’re pleased that we’re taking it back to our place all square.

“We look forward to getting it on now. We’ve got a very important game on Tuesday down at Torquay, but certainly I’m satisfied with that.

“I didn’t think we were anywhere near what we know we can do.

“When it’s over two legs, you’ve got to be professional and if you’re not playing great, like the football you’d normally see from us, you’ve just got to make sure you do what we did and see it through.”
