James Rowe hopes to be able to help Aldershot Town in their bid to avoid relegation with the midfielder expected to return to first team action in the next few weeks, Surrey Live say.

The 27-year-old, who last played for the Shots in their 3-0 defeat at AFC Fylde on September 15, has been on the sidelines for more than six months following a freak injury at home.

Rowe was getting a drink from his fridge when a bottle of fruit cordial fell out and smashed. He then slipped on the liquid and landed on the broken glass, severing tendons and nerves in his foot.

And while the injury itself was serious, Rowe admits the circumstances that surround it sound ludicrous and he doesn’t blame those that doubted the truth in the tale.

“Everyone was hammering me on Twitter and online after the news of the injury got out,” Rowe admitted.

“If I heard the story I probably would have assumed the player was steaming drunk or doing something stupid, but the gaffer believed me straight away because it happened on a Thursday night and we had a game on the Saturday so I wouldn’t have been doing anything stupid.”
