Runcorn Town manager Chris Herbert has moved to increase his attacking options with the capture of proven goalscorer Ryan Cox from fellow Hallmark Security League side Bootle.
The 23-year old made a name for himself at an early age, scoring a record-breaking five goals for Liverpool Schoolboys at Anfield in the English Schools Trophy Final win against Cambridge. He went on to sign a two-year Academy deal with Huddersfield Town, leaving the now-Premier League side after two years.
Since then he has continued to find the net at an incredible rate. He scored 77 goals in two-and-a-half years for AFC Liverpool, before moving onto Runcorn Linnets for a short spell, where he scored six times. He moved to Bootle at the start of the 2016/17 season, and over the last two seasons has scored over 70 goals, including 42 in his first season.
He will be available for Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup tie at Pontefract Collieries.
Speaking of the signing, Herbert said: “Coxy is a player that we have wanted for a long time, but he shown his character by remaining extremely loyal to Bootle. I respect this a lot as it shows a lot about who he is as a person. He was obviously now ready for a fresh challenge and we are glad that he has accepted to come to us and help us with our challenge for promotion this season.”
“He will fit straight in with us at Runcorn and should really suit our style of play. With the amount of chances that we tend to create in games he will hopefully get into the swing of things straight away and do what he does best which is to score goals. He has always scored goals against us and has always impressed both Mark McGregor and myself when we have watched him. Even our own players have been on at me in the past to try and get him here, which tells you what a nightmare he is to play against!
“Now he is starting a new chapter with us, its up to him to keep the high standards that he has set for himself over the last few years, and continue scoring goals for Runcorn Town.”
