Salford City have signed central defender James Jones from National League North Chester..

Shropshire-born Jones is a highly promising central defender who has been at Chester since he was 14. He scored on his senior debut in a Cheshire Cup tie and captained the youth team during 2016-2017.

Last season was a difficult one for the Blues but Jones seized his chance, playing a total of 14 National League games. He was selected for Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy earlier this summer and looks set for a bright future.

After his contract at Chester ended, he was offered new terms. Understandably there was interest in the 19-year-old from elsewhere but he has opted to sign a two-year deal at the Peninsula Stadium.
