Salsibury manager Steve Claridge has moved to strengthen his squad ahead of the demanding promotion run-in with the exciting signing of striker Luke Hopper from National League South side Hungerford Town.

Claridge has beaten off interest from two clubs from higher leagues to secure the signature of the 28-year-old, profiting from Hungerford’s reluctance to let him go due to a wage budget cut at the club.

“I’m delighted to have got him,” said Claridge, who has agreed a deal with Hopper for the rest of this season and next, with an option for the following season as well.

“He could have gone higher, and for more money, but he likes what we’re trying to achieve here at Salisbury, he’s based in Swindon and he was willing to take a significant drop in the money he was getting at Hungerford so it’s a great bit of business all round.

“I tried to get him last summer before we got Justin Bennett and Tommy Wright so we’ve been monitoring him for a while.”
