Maidstone United have agreed a deal with Jay Saunders to extend his term as first-team manager

Next month the 37-year-old marks his fifth year in charge and this new agreement sees him commit his future to a club that he has taken from Ryman South to National League South during the past three years.

Stones chief executive Bill Williams said: “The Board is absolutely delighted with the job that Jay has done for the club and equally delighted that he sees his future with Maidstone United. We all hope we are able to meet our aims and objectives over the coming years.”

Saunders added: “I am delighted to agree a new deal and thank the owners for their continued backing. We’ve achieved so much in the past few years and I am excited to be part of the future. There’s massive potential at this club and I am honoured that Bill, Terry and Oliver want me to be at the forefront of that.

“I would also like to thank the fans for their support. From the couple of hundred who watched down at Ashford in my early days, to the couple of thousand who pack out the Gallagher every home game. We’ve enjoyed some great times and I hope there’s many more where they came from.”

Alongside his first-team responsibilities, Saunders is at the heart of many of the club’s activities. He is a coach at the football academy and helps to manage two teams in the Football Conference Youth Alliance.

In the past year he has also taken on the popular Pebbles Club, Player Development Centre and Soccer Schools – giving the next generation an opportunity to train with first team and academy players at the Gallagher Stadium.

Saunders became manager March 2011 and has led the team during one of the most exciting periods in the club’s history. His managerial CV includes two promotions, a League Cup title and successful runs in the FA Cup.
