The knee injury sustained by Ebbsfleet United’s Sam Magri at Leyton Orient looks set to end the defender’s season prematurely following a scan this week.

The adaptable summer signing, who has played 39 games this season, had his leg in a brace following the injury in Saturday’s game and the medial ligament damage is such that the 24-year-old will face a spell on the sidelines.

Magri, tipped by manager Daryl McMahon as a player of the season contender, tweeted his bad news on Tuesday evening, writing: “Season over now for me. All being well be back fit for pre-season. Onwards and upwards and hopefully we’ll be in the play-offs come the end of the season. Thanks for all the support.”

It was a double blow for Magri who had once again been selected by Malta for their forthcoming friendly matches against Luxembourg and Finland
