Notts County manager Neal Ardley said referee Steven Copeland feared players were at risk of serious injury after making the decision to postpone their clash at AFC Fylde.

The National League clash was called off less than an hour before kick-off despite having passed two inspections earlier in the day.

But at around 5pm, a 30-yard section of the surface, which had been covered in sand, was subjected a heavy downpour and was ultimately deemed unsafe.

Copeland had tested the area himself but had trouble keeping his footing while Notts’ assistant boss Neil Cox also became concerned for the players’ welfare.
