Waltham Forest FC have confirmed the appointment of Qayum Shakoor as first team manager.

“Q” has over two decades of experience and involvement in football, and joined Forest as Assistant Manager last season. He was instrumental in Forest’s excellent form towards the end of the season, bringing a number of high quality players to the club.

As well as working in England, Q’s understanding of the game has been developed abroad where he was the assistant manager of the u23s at Real Aviles in Segunda B in Spain, before returning to work as a consultant for Jimmy Bullard’s Leatherhead.

Q’s passion to provide a pathway for young players to progress within the game, as well as to generate a positive community spirit has marked him out as an outstanding coach at this level. Qayum believes in hard work and combined success; tools that will enable him to adapt to his environment quickly.

Speaking to the club’s website, Q said “We’re looking forward to this upcoming season, which I believe will be the most competitive in the history of the league”.

“We’re one of the few clubs without a budget in the League, but we’ll be competing against those who are splashing a bit of cash this season. We’re a bit like Leicester, we’re the underdogs!

“We aim to offer young, hungry players opportunities to progress up the football ladder, via strong links that have seen numerous scouts attend our fixtures.

This has resulted in our players training with clubs such as Fleetwood Town, Aberdeen and Crawley Town, as well as clubs in Spain, Italy and Denmark.

Qayum will be joined by head coach Anton Smith, a UEFA licenced coach who also works for Reading as a scout for East London & Essex. Anton will also be working with Waltham Forest’s Academy.

The management set up have shown their shear professionalism by organising practice games and training sessions, even before the end of “official” 2016/2017 season

The players are now going through a thorough pre-season fitness training programmes, designed so the players, hit the ground running, once the season begins in earnest

If the team is not successful this season, it will not be through lack of planning and preparation.
