Chester FC have announced that Ian Sharps will be the club`s player/assistant-manager for the forthcoming 2016/17 season.

Sharps, 35, took the role on a temporary basis last month following Jon McCarthy’s appointment as caretaker-manager.

McCarthy was then named as first-team manager on a permanent basis on Saturday.

Sharps signed for the Blues back in the summer of 2015 following a fantastic career at Football League Clubs such as Tranmere Rovers, Rotherham, Shrewsbury and Burton Albion.

Following his arrival, Sharps was named as the Blues’ club captain for the 2015/16 season.
