Former Shrewsbury Town and AFC Telford United forward Tom Hughes has signed for Shawbury United.
He becomes the club’s eighth player to commit for the next campaign. Hughes joins the club from AFC Telford United, where he made two first-team appearances and scored over 20 goals for the Bucks’ youth team last season.
Hughes had a brief spell with Wellington Amateurs in the West Midlands Regional Leagues in 2017/18 to gain some first-team experience and his good form earned him a trial at Leicester City during that campaign.
Manager Declan Allen is pleased to link up once again with Hughes and said: “I know a lot about Tom and he is a player that I have seen make great strides over the last 18 months. He’s a big lad and has learned how to use his stature to his advantage and proved at AMS two years ago as a 16-year-old he is more than ready for this level.
“He knows the system and what I demand and he will fit in right away. It’s great to have him on board for the campaign.”
Hughes spoke of signing: “I am really happy to be here. After working with Dec the last few years it was an easy decision.
“Looking forward, the club is heading in the right direction and I am delighted to be part of the project. The team has great potential and I am looking forward to seeing what we can do this season.”
