FC Halifax Town last night made it two wins in five matches, and took all three points at the hands of Boreham Wood in the biggest match of the season for the Shaymen.
Town looked set for all three points before a second half collapse saw a certain three points turn into one, before substitute Connor Hughes popped up in added time to give Town the victory and pull them further clear of the dreaded drop zone.
After the game, FC Halifax Town defender Kevin Roberts spoke to Shaymen Player HD and expressed that Town deserved all three points.
“To be honest I thought we deserved the three points from our first half performance,” said Roberts speaking after the game. “But I think we needed that third goal and we said that at half time because it would be edgy, and as soon as they scored that’s exactly what happened.
“It was a tough one to take at the end, because in the first half I thought we blew them away but then we hung in there and nicked one at the end.”
Town blew the Hertfordshire outfit away in the first 45 minutes with goals coming from Jordan Burrow and James Bolton, and Roberts felt that the first half performance will give the squad a boost of confidence heading into Saturday’s tie with Aldershot.
“We have Aldershot at home, and hopefully another three points and we need to perform like we did in the first half and we should be ok.
“There’s nothing better than a last minute win, the lads are buzzing. As easy as it would have been to get a four nil win and then stroll through the game, it gives you a better buzz winning in the last minute.”
Boreham Wood played with no pressure when the score line was at two nil, and played with a freedom that allowed them to go forward, and Roberts expressed he knew that they would come out firing in the second half.
“As a footballer as soon your down in a game the pressure is off you and they came out and played some great football and we struggled to get the ball back off them and cope with them, but when the pressure is off you can play as they showed last night.”
