Kevin Roberts is hoping FC Halifax Town can finish 2016 with a flurry away at Darlington on Boxing Day.
The Shaymen Supporters and players alike need some festive cheer, having been knocked out of the FA Cup and seen points drop at home to AFC Telford.
Roberts admits the team hasn’t been themselves in recent performances.
“Telford was a really poor game from us and the atmosphere in the dressing room was very flat at full-time. It was extremely scrappy and one of those games where no team deserved to come away with the 3 points” said Roberts.
“I don’t think Telford put any real pressure on us throughout the 90 mins, apart from the unbelievable strike from Fitzpatrick – strikes like that our one in a million” he added.
Despite creating only, a handful of chances, Roberts believed Town deserved the late equaliser and rescued a vital point heading into the first of consecutive clashes with Darlington.
Back-to-back victories over the North-East side would see the Shaymen leapfrog them in the league standings with games in hand to spare. That scenario is vital for the club to achieve Roberts believes as the team head into the new year.
“This last month has been disappointing for us all, myself, the rest of the players and most importantly the fans” said Roberts.
“However, the positives can be that we haven’t played that many league games during this period, the defeats and disappointments have come mostly in cup ties.
“We’re in a good position if we can pick up the victories against Darlington to move back up into those play-off places with games in hand around the other sides to hopefully secure our position there.”
The previous fixture at home to Telford was the right back’s first action in just under a month (4-2 defeat away at Curzon on 19th November), having suffered with a niggling groin injury.
Roberts was gutted to be out on the side-lines and to miss out on some big games for the club, most noticeably both ties against Eastleigh.
“I’ve eased my way back to full fitness and thankfully I’ve come out the other side with no problems so I’m eager to get back out there on a regular basis again – though I am glad there’s no game on the 28th this year!” Roberts joked.
