Ahead of the Spireites’ trip to Sutton tomorrow, Chesterfield boss John Sheridan spoke to the media about the importance of building on Saturday’s first win of the season against Torquay.
“It’s a massive relief, it’s not a run that I expected us to be on and it’s not something I like to talk about, so I’m just pleased to get it out of the way,” he said during the pre-match press conference.
“We just have to move on now, we know we’re playing catch up early in the season and we have to build on the win.
“You have to try to keep players going even when the run isn’t good – you have to keep people on their toes. But there’s plenty of time in the season, you see different results week in, week out in this league.
“We know we need to get results quickly and gain ground on teams around us.
“I believe we are capable of it, but we’ve only won one game. We’re still in a vulnerable position – a position we shouldn’t be in.”
