Sholing have described themselves as “shocked and devastated” after it was announced that the club’s First Team Coach Darren Burdle had passed away.

Burdle joined the Sholing from Follands in 2015 and quickly became a popular character around the club.

As a player Burdle played for the likes of Lymington Town and Blackfield and Langley before moving into coaching with Folland Sports Reserves and Winchester City.

A statement on the Boatmen website read “Sholing Football Club are shocked and devastated to hear of the tragic death of our First Team Coach and Friend, Darren Burdle. Our hearts go out to his Family and Friends, especially his children Dylan, Brooke & Connor.

Football seems so trivial at times like this, but Football was a massive part of Darren’s life. One that he lived to the full.

We have lost another good one. We will miss you Dazza”.

The club also confirmed that they will go ahead with Tuesday night’s Southampton Senior Cup tie against Hedge End Rangers.  That decision was made after discussions with their playing squad.
