Chairman Shahid Azeem has praised manager Gary Waddock, assistant James Rowe and head of medical Russ Clash for ‘working miracles’ at Aldershot Town this season, admitting the team are exceeding his expectations.

Despite having a small squad that has been beset by an unusually high amount of injuries and illnesses this season, the Shots currently sit second in the National League table, four points off leaders Macclesfield Town. But while admitting the National League is very difficult to get out of, Shots chairman Azeem has urged the club’s supporters to enjoy the current journey.

“We are very pleased with the season so far because we are punching above our weight from where we were and it’s probably easier if I tell you the players who haven’t been ill or injury this season that the ones that have!” the chairman joked. “With the numbers of games we have played, I think the team, Gary, James and Russ have worked miracles.

“We have a long, long way to go yet this season and it’s important to enjoy the journey. This journey has lots of twists and turn in it yet.

“Gary and James are exceeding my expectations this season. I know how professional they are and how hard they work. And the one guy that I need to mention is Russ Clash the physio, he has had to work hard this season and he’s been fantastic.”
