Gainsborough Trinity club captain Liam King has left the club after cancelling his contract by mutual consent.
The club say that the 31-year-old midfielder requested for his contract to be terminated after being sidelined since October with a back injury, preferring to prioritise his long-term health and help ease the club’s wage bill in the process.
King said: “I’ve done everything within my ability to get myself fit again, but I just need time to get my head straight, as well as my body. I play football for enjoyment and I am gutted that I am having to make this decision.”
