A stunning goal from Scott Wilson earned Macclesfield Town a win against League One opposition Bury on Tuesday night.

A tightly fought affair saw both sides threaten each other’s goal but a well-rounded team performance secured a deserved win for Macc.

John Askey again opted to rotate the team in both halves to let his players gain valuable minutes on the pitch and after the game he spoke to mtfc.co.uk with his thoughts on the game.

“It’s gone well; it was a good workout and good to see everybody. Everybody that played put a shift in and it was a good performance not only first half but in the second half as well, we’re getting closer.

“I think it’s important that you get a goal. It was a really great strike and we created quite a few chances, we should’ve had 2 or 3 more and we’ve got players playing who look like they can play.

“It’s great that we are able to change the squad around so much playing against a league 1 side. We’re competing so it bodes well,  but we won’t get too carried away, but obviously it’s important to us and what we’re looking for in the run up to the season.”

With two pre-season friendly’s against higher opposition completed, attention now turns to Saturday’s game against local rivals Stockport County. So far it’s been a case of players getting minutes on the pitch but John Askey has signalled he’ll start to ease the squad into a more organised routine.

John said; “I think it’ll be a more realistic game and more of what we’ll expect on Saturday. I’m looking forward to the Stockport game because I think well have a better idea then of where we are.

“We’ll probably reduce it down a little bit because we’ve got to get to a stage where we’re getting more organised and working on things, and hopefully we can and sign 1 or 2 more before Saturday.”
