Macclesfield Town defender Mitch Hancox says he felt ‘disheartened’ by the result against Oxford United, but was thrilled by his side’s performance on Friday night.

The world’s eyes lay on the Moss on Friday as the FA Cup came to the town of Macclesfield with John Askey’s men hosting League One side, Oxford.

The result finished 0-0 with Macc impressing heavily on the night as the replay nears.

Defender, Hancox, played an excellent game on Friday night where he contributed as a holding midfielder where he impressed.

“To be fair, the lads put a great shift in. I feel a bit disheartened that we didn’t take our chances but it’s the FA Cup”, said the 23-year old.

“We didn’t have that bit of luck.  Jack (Mackreth) hit the post which was unlucky and their keeper pulled off a great save from Paul Lewis.

“To be fair to Oxford they had some chances in the second half but in the first half we could have killed off the game, but it was just one of them days.

“We will just go down to Oxford now and try to get a result. Hopefully we can get through.”
