Maccelsfield Town defender Dan Cowan is looking forward to competing for a regular place in the starting XI ahead of the new season, after recently signing a new deal at Moss Rose.
Cowan primarily plays as a right-back for The Silkmen, but, speaking to mtfc.co.uk, admits that he doesn’t have a set position, which should help him compete with the rest of the defence for first team football.
“I’ve been around the team,” he said. “I’ve not really had a set position so hopefully I can really push on and start more games and help the team a lot more.
“Competition is always a good thing as it makes you push on as a person. There’s a lot of defenders signed so hopefully we can all push each other and that will make us get the best out of each other”.
Cowan joins a long list of players who have also accepted contract extensions with the club, and he is very happy to see so many other players extending their stays at Moss Rose.
“It’s great to see so many of the lads from last year signing new deals. We’re all a great bunch of lads and we all know each other very well from last season so it’s always nice to see them signing new deals, plus some of the other older faces so it’s really good”.
Like many of the players, Cowan also believes that clinching promotion is the key for Macclesfield during the 2016/17 National League campaign.
“I’d say that’s the aim definitely. Two seasons ago we were very close and last season we had that momentum which suddenly dipped which we were unlucky with but hopefully this season should be the one”.
