Midfielder Paul Lewis is hopeful a strong pre-season can set Macclesfield Town up to challenge at the top end of the National League season.
The Silkmen have been back in training for two weeks now and with two friendlies under their belt host Championship side Wigan Athletic in their first home friendly tomorrow.
Lewis admits it is nice to be back in training and says keeping the squad together from last term has put the Silkmen in an excellent position going in to the new campaign.
Paul said: “It’s good to get back, good to get back to seeing the boys again and hopefully we can have a strong pre- season.
“It gives you a good base to go on and hopefully allows us to perform the best that we can in the season and just to get your general fitness back as well. Obviously we’ve had a break so you need to get it back up.”
Lewis added: “It’s always nice to see the lads I played with last year re-signing so hopefully that will be good for us. We don’t really need to bond as a group because we’ve been together for over a year now so hopefully that will put us in good stead for the season.”
