Micky Mellon is looking forward to Tranmere Rovers’ first game of 2017 when they travel to Moss Rose to take on Macclesfield Town.

Having faced the same opposition on Boxing Day, the manager says they are fully aware of the threat they should face on Sunday.

He told Tranmere PlayerHD: “Macclesfield are a well organised team. We knew they were a good team before we played on Boxing Day, I went and watched them myself.

“They’re a good side who want to play football, they have good players and experience as well, you’d have to look hard for a more experienced centre half partnership than the one they have (Jamie McCombe and George Pilkington).

“We know it is going to be tough on New Year’s Day but we’re looking forward to the challenge and we’ll go there and play the way we think we need to play in order to get a result.

“We’ll have a massive following coming with us. We’re enjoying our football so we’ll look forward to going to Macclesfield and trying to get the three points.”
