Fairford Town have appointed Chris Smith and Jody Bevan as the club’s new management team.
The Reds are preparing for a return to the Uhlsport Hellenic Premier Division and have appointed a new management team following the resignation of Gareth Davies at the end of the title-winning 2016/17 campaign.
The 38-year old brings a wealth of experience having played over 600 games and scored over 250 goals. He won four promotions during a stellar Southern League career, serving the likes of Cinderford Town, Weston-Super-Mare, Gloucester City, Shortwood United and Cirencester Town. In 2014 he was nominated as a finalist for Gloucestershire’s Sports Personality of the Year and also has experience as player/assistant manager at Shortwood. Upon hanging up his boots he became assistant manager at Cirencester Town and holds an FA Level 2 coaching qualification – in addition to a Bsc Hons degree in Sport and Exercise Sciences.
Vastly experienced in the game and well connected in the local and Southern League circuit, Chris Smith arrives at Cinder Lane at an exciting time for the club.
As a player, he represented the likes of Cheltenham Town, Gloucester City, Forest Green Rovers, Newport and Bath City.
He then turned to management and served as assistant manager at Weston-Super-Mare as well as further spells in management with Cinderford Town, Forest Green Rovers & Cirencester Town.
Smith and Bevan will now get to work planning the pre-season schedule with further announcements due soon.
