EBAC Northern League club South Shields have confirmed that they have applied for promotion to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League First Division North.
The Mariners currently sit in second position in the Northern League Division One table, five points behind North Shields with a game in hand.
They have made a number of ambitious signings since owner Geoff Thompson took over the club in 2015, with the likes of former Gateshead striker Jon Shaw and ex-Sunderland player Julio Arca joining since they returned to their home town.
The ground has undergone a major redevelopment over the past twelve months and now they have set out their stall to apply for promotion to step four of the non-league pyramid.
In a statement released on their official website the club confirmed the application.
It read “The club can confirm that an application for promotion to step four of the National League System at the end of the 2016-17 campaign has been submitted to the FA.
“The Mariners must now finish as the highest-placed applicant in the top three of Northern League Division One to achieve this aim”
As yet it is unclear whether any of the Mariners Northern League rivals have applied for promotion.
