South Shields have signed former Bolton Wanderers forward Sanmi Odelusi.
The 26-year-old has joined the Mariners on an initial deal until January 2020. He arrives on South Tyneside after spells in the EFL with Bolton, Wigan Athletic, Colchester United and Cheltenham Town, as well as a number of loan spells.
Odelusi was most recently with FC Halifax Town and he told Shields’ website: “I’m delighted to be here.
“I’ve seen the style of football that the boys play and I know Myles Boney from our time together at Blackpool. He’s a good goalkeeper and he spoke well about the tactics the boys play, so that’s what really nailed it for me.”
The Mariners’ joint-manager Graham Fenton said: “Myself, Lee (Picton) and Brian (Smith) are delighted to have signed Sanmi until the start of January at least.
“Sanmi is a powerful, pacey forward player who is very strong at running with the ball and is a good finisher as well. He has gained lots of league experience over the past few years, which I’m sure will hold him in good stead for playing at our level.
“Although he hasn’t played much recently, we’re hoping that he hits the ground running and makes an immediate impact. His arrival gives us lots of options up front now, with Jason Gilchrist coming back from injury and the likes of Lee Mason and David Foley now available again.
“There is a lot of competition for places at the top end of the pitch, which is great for the team. We’re hoping Sanmi will settle quickly and that will be helped by the fact he knows Myles Boney well from their time together at Blackpool.”
