South Shields have confirmed the club have decided to appeal against the red card shown to Jason Gilchrist during Saturday’s game at Radcliffe.

The summer signing from Southport was sent off on 34 minutes for an off-the-ball incident in the season opener in the BetVictor Northern Premier League Premier Division. Graham Fenton and Lee Picton’s side went on to win the game 1-0.

Radcliffe’s Harry Winter was also dismissed in the game, as he was awarded a second yellow card on 71 minutes for tripping Shields’ David Foley.

Striker Gilchrist’s three-match suspension is currently due to start on Saturday. The 24-year-old was leading goalscorer in the National League North for Southport two seasons ago.
