Spennymoor Town have withdrawn from the Durham Challenge Cup.

The club say the decision is due to severe fixture congestion.

Spenny are currently the joint-holder of the competition, having reached the final with Sunderland in 2019/20, which was postponed and never rearranged due to the pandemic.

The National League North club explain: “The Moors’ fixture pile-up has also been created by the ongoing health crisis. Two matches this season have already been postponed within hours of kick-off, due to opposition players and officials testing positive.”
