Marine chairman Paul Leary has spoken of his excitement at the club’s upcoming FA Cup game with Tottenham Hotspur, hailing it ‘the most magical cup tie in the history of the FA Cup’.

The game pits eighth-tier Marine against the current Premier League leaders, with the third-round tie taking place next month.

Chairman Leary was speaking after it was confirmed that the game will take place at The Marine Travel Arena (Sunday 10th January) and be televised on BBC One. He said:

“This is the most magical cup tie in the history of the FA Cup, attracting interest from football fans around the world. For Marine to be playing Tottenham Hotspur at home and to be shown live on BBC is the dream of all dreams.

“For our fans, players, staff and sponsors, for our neighbours, the residents of Crosby and Sefton, it will be a wonderful and fantastic occasion, and one that we will remember for years.”

Marine officials are hopeful that a limited number of spectators will be allowed and await confirmation of the number from The FA.
