St Ives boss Ricky Marheineke was left scratching his head at how his side didn’t score in their 3-0 defeat to Stratford Town in the Evo-Stik Southern, Premier Division.

Ives had nearly double the amount of shots that their opponents did on the day -13 to seven – but were still unable to find the back of the net.

Ben Stephens opened the scoring with a fine solo effort from 25-yards after a marauding run from midfield and Town doubled their lead minutes later. A long ball from Loyiso Recci caught the Ives defenders off guard and Jaz Luckie converted to make it 2-0 at the break.

Ives were much improved in the second half and despite fashioning a hatful of chances, it was Town who struck against, Edwin Ahenkorah netting from the spot.

Marheineke said: “We started the second half excellently and I thought our performance was very good,” he said.

“I thought we were positive, I thought we moved the ball around well and the only thing I’m scratching my head at is how we haven’t scored. It was literally like there was a magnet in the goal repelling the ball.”
