Nathan Stainfield has opted to re-join his former manager from Spalding, at Gainsborough Trinity, making the step up from Evo-Stik South, to become Dave Frecklington’s sixth summer acquisition.
“I am really pleased to get Nathan over the line, having worked with him last season it was obvious he was going be a top target of mine in the summer.”
The 28-year-old, Welsh born centre back, started his career at Lincolnshire rivals Boston United, but has since played most of his football at Spalding and Hucknall, growing in stature at the level, gaining a fantastic reputation amongst his peers. Following his departure from Spalding, it was clear to see how highly rated the Sleaford based centre back is, both in his own dressing room and by his peers at the level and Frecklington had nothing but high words of praise as he welcomed the centre half to the club.
“He is in every sense a captain, a leader of men, a winner and a fantastic character, he brings all the right credentials to the changing room that’s needed to be competitive. He also trains how he plays and another who comes on the back of winning football matches after losing in the play-off final at my previous club.”
And Frecks is confident his former skipper has what it takes to make the step up, “He now feels it’s time to step up to the plate and prove he’s ready to perform at National League North level. We’ve beaten a high number of clubs to his signature, and to get him to the Martin & Co Arena is massive.” The new man agreed, “I want to be able to look myself in the mirror and know I’m testing myself at the highest level. I am relishing the challenge.”
Knowing how Terry (Fleming, assistant manager) and I manage was a key factor in Stainfield signing and the boss declared, “I can’t wait to work alongside him again this season. Having the likes of Nathan in your changing room makes it easier to manage as he demands performances to a level in which he plays.”
The boss continued, “The squad is really taking shape now and I can’t be any happier with the business I’ve done so far. I’m sure all Gainsborough Trinity fans will welcome Nathan to the club and look forward to seeing him pull on the famous blue jersey.”
