Last Tuesday, Sandbach United welcomed Sky Sports Gillette Soccer Saturday host Jeff Stelling, cricketer Dominic Cork and around 40 other marchers taking part in Jeff’s March for Men campaign.
The march is aimed at raising awareness and funds for research into the causes of Prostate Cancer, and involves a walk of almost 400 miles from Exeter City to Newcastle United’s football grounds, both of which are named St. James’s Park.
Sandbach United Vice-Chairman Mike Senior was on site to meet the marchers when they called in, and as well as presenting a collection bucket as a donation to the cause, he also gave Jeff with a club pennant as a keepsake.
“It was great to meet Jeff and the other marchers who are doing so much to raise awareness for a great and pertinent cause”, said Mike.
“Jeff is obviously a very popular guy in football circles amongst players and supporters alike, and to be able to provide the club as a stop off point on his route from Port Vale to Crewe Alexandra was a pleasure. Being able to raise a bit at our recent tournament to donate was the least we could do.
“I imagine the short respite from the weather was welcomed by them all, as it had rained hard all day with howling winds making it difficult.
“We wish them all the best on their continued journey and encourage everyone to check out the March for Men website to support Jeff and his team”.
