Darren Stephenson has waited patiently to make his first start in a Tranmere Rovers shirt and completed the 90 minutes for Rovers away at York City on Tuesday evening.

The former Chorley man said he was happy with how his full debut went.

He told Tranmere Player: “I enjoyed it a lot, I’ve been waiting to get my chance and the gaffer has given me an opportunity and I’ve tried my best.

“We started the season really well so I couldn’t really complain that I wasn’t playing. I have had to just wait and take my chance when I get it.”

Rovers had a man sent off after 50 minutes when Jeff Hughes was given a red card but Stephenson believed that a point was the least that the team were worthy of.

He added: “We dug in, all the lads did well from the back all the way to the front and we deserved to get a draw at least.

“Although you’re a man down, you still want to go and win the game so we had to defend well and try and take a chance when it came to us.”
