Gateshead boss Steve Watson will be remaining in his post despite the club’s recently-announced switch to part-time.

With the collapse of the Vanarama National League side’s takeover by a Shanghai-based investor announced this week, current co-owners Richard and Julie Bennett say the club cannot continue operating on a full-time basis. That had left former Newcastle United, Everton and Aston Villa player Watson’s future as manager in doubt, but the Heed have announced the 44-year-old and his coaching staff have agreed new one-year deals.

Richard Bennett said: “We’re delighted to secure the services of Steve and his management team for another season. While it will be a challenging season, with Steve on board, we’re positive that we can still compete to a good standard.”
