Port Vale striker Jordan Archer says his loan move to Stockport County was an easy decision.

The 26-year-old impressed manager Jim Gannon on his debut, starting and playing 76 minutes of the goalless draw at home to Sutton United on Saturday. The result keeps them eighth in the National League, outside the play-off places only on goal difference, and was watched by 5,079.

Archer has joined Stockport on an initial month’s loan having struggled to win a place in the Vale side following his free transfer move from Bury in the summer.

The 6ft 3in centre forward wants regular football and so jumped at the chance of the loan move.

He told Stockport’s official website: “I was at Port Vale and the lack of game time is a big reason why I have come here. The gaffer has promised me he can get me game time.

“It is a massive club, Stockport County, so it was just a no brainer for me to come here and hopefully hit the ground running.”
