Stockport County are on the march in the Vanarama National League North, with five successive victories putting them in firm contention for a play-off place.

Jim Gannon’s Hatters were 3-2 winners at home to Tamworth last night, with a Jason Oswell double and one from Matty Warburton sealing the latest victory. It takes Oswell up to 28 goals in a magnificent season for the striker and there were 2,854 at Edgeley Park on a Tuesday night for this one.

Sitting 5th in the National League North, County have stormed into promotion contention of late, and there will be a touch of nostalgia for Hatters fans as their current winning run is their best since 2008, when they ended up gaining promotion to League One. Promotion back to the National League would be a huge boost for a club that was so long a part of the Football League furniture.

Relegation from League Two in 2011 ended a run of 106 years in the League.
