Striker Ethan Jones has signed for Southport.
The 19-year-old former Shrewsbury Town man was confirmed as being signed for the Sandgrounders by manager Alan Lewer.
Jones spent part of last season on loan at National League outfit Tranmere Rovers and at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Premier Division side Stourbridge.
Jones joins on a free transfer deal following the expiration of his contract at Shrewsbury.
He made five appearances in League One during 2016/17, in addition to one appearance in both the Emirates FA Cup and the Capital One Cup.
He made five appearances on loan at Tranmere before going on to score 5 goals in fifteen games for the Glassboys.
Lewer said: “We’re very happy to welcome Ethan to the club and we know he’ll be a great signing for us. He’s got a real ability to turn defenders using his pace. He can play as a winger or as a traditional centre-forward and that gives us some real options when planning our attack.
“He deserved to play more last season, and we’re hopeful we can help Ethan reach his potential. That would be great for him and great for the club.
“We’re happy with the progress we’ve made so far on the squad. It’s never easy rebuilding an entire team, but the other side of that is I’ve got a blank canvass to make sure we do it properly and sign the right players.
“We’re deep into discussions on our new first choice keeper and I think we’ll be able to announce that in the next few days.”
Head of development Mark Wright added: “Ethan joining the squad is another key contract for us. The market for players is always tight and always competitive but we’re taking a methodical approach, making sure we sign the right players and Ethan is absolutely a part of that”.
