Chesterfield’s Will Evans reflected on his match-saving contribution at either end of the pitch in Saturday’s thrilling 3-3 draw against Ebbsfleet United, scoring a late equaliser before taking over in goal deep into stoppage time and saving a penalty.
Evans told the club’s website: “It was surreal, the whole thing. It was crazy, to be honest with you.
“Scoring the equaliser was incredible. We said to ourselves in the back four that we can’t lose this game.
“With Cal getting sent-off and having to face a penalty was bizarre, to say the least. It wasn’t a great penalty but you still have to be there and save it. It was a great feeling!”
The 27-year-old defender is hoping that the superb second-half comeback, after being three-nil down at the break, will prove to be a turning point.
He said: “Something like this can turn a season around and it can bring you a bit of belief and momentum to go forward.”
