Sutton United manager Paul Doswell has finally secured the services of a player he admits he has been trying to sign for five years after striker Byron Harrison joined the club from Barrow on loan until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old, who came on as a second-half substitute in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Holker Street, scored twice in the game at the Knights Community Stadium in September. He joined the Cumbrians at the start of last season but is well known to local football followers having had a successful spell at Carshalton Athletic, from where he earned a move in to the Football League with Stevenage in 2011, before joining AFC Wimbledon for a club-record fee.

He has subsequently played for Cheltenham and Chesterfield, and earlier in his career included Havant & Waterlooville, Boreham Wood, Harrow Borough and Ashford Town among his clubs.

Doswell commented: ”Byron’s a player I’ve admired and known for a long time, and I’m delighted that I’ve finally managed to persuade him to join us.”
