Manager Gary Johnson has strengthened his Torquay United squad with the loan signing of defender Joe Lewis, 19, from Championship side Swansea City.
“We’re grateful to Swansea to allow us to loan one of their up-and-coming stars. He’s a centre-back that can also play right-back, left-back or central midfield,” said Johnson.
“He’s looking forward to his first loan, he’s definitely our personality and character, and a very competitive footballer, so hopefully it will be a successful loan for both him, us and Swansea. He’s been training with us for the past few days, came to our game against Exeter and because of the game itself and the atmosphere the fans created, he was very happy to join us.”
Lewis, who made three appearances for City in the Checkatrade Trophy last season, is eager to get down to business at Plainmoor.
“It’s a really exciting time, it’s been something that’s been talked of for a little while, and it’s really nice to get it done,” said Lewis.
“Coming to this club in particular, the motivation to push on is really, really attractive from my point of view. It’s a great league to be playing in, and it’s such a big club.”
