Despite over seven years of service for the club, the experienced Drew Talbot is said to have learned of his release from Chesterfield via a text message from a friend.

According to Graham Smyth of the Sheffield Star and Derbyshire Times, the 31-year-old, who made his name as an exciting young striker at Sheffield Wednesday, found out about his departure after a friend sent him the club’s statement. The ex-Luton Town man was released along with fellow experienced names Ian Evatt and Sam Hird despite the club dropping into the Vanarama National League.

It is the Spireites’ first time out of the EFL since 1921.
