Tamworth midfielder Connor Taylor has apologised to fans and manager Andy Morrell after a ‘shambolic team performance’ against Nuneaton Town on Boxing Day.
And he has demanded his wounded team-mates restore their pride when the two sides meet again on New Year’s Day. The Lambs were humiliated 4-1 by their arch rivals after falling 4-0 down after less than half an hour.
And Taylor admitted he was devastated for the fans, who made their feelings known at the break with cries of ‘you’re not fit to wear the shirt’.
“It was just simply not good enough,” he said. “There’s no way of buttering up anything about that performance. The whole game, from start to finish, it was just embarrassing.
“It’s not even anything to do with style of play or anything like that. It’s a derby game and it’s about working hard.
“We could be top of the league and they might be bottom, it doesn’t matter with a derby. You have to turn up, work hard and show passion and we didn’t do those basic things.
“It was embarrassing, it was a shambolic team performance and I can only apologise to everyone connected to the football club. We have let them down.”
