AFC Telford United officials have expressed their gratitude and surprise at recently receiving a £5,000 donation from a longstanding supporter.
Club staff were gobsmacked when they opened the post two weeks ago and found a cheque for the amount which they believe to be the biggest one off donation they have ever received from an individual.
The long standing supporter who has been based in Berkshire for many years said “What I would love my donation to do is encourage other supporters to give and thereby improve the club’s financial position in some small way.
If we do escape trouble over the next month (and I believe we will), it would be good to approach next season on a firmer financial footing, at the same time giving Rob and Larry a budget that enables them to build a team capable of holding its own.”
Club Chairman Ian Dosser, who immediately called to thank the supporter said “We’ve genuinely been humbled by this donation, which is magnificent. In fact it really epitomises the reaction of the Supporters as they have got behind the club recently as we’ve looked to battle our way to safety.”
This news comes on the back of news that over £1000 was donated collectively by purchasers of Early Bird Season Tickets. The club had asked individuals to consider one off donations on the application form, and received a large number of donations from £1 to £200. Club Directors and Trustees will be calling donors individually this week to thank them for their support.
The Trust have also revised their fundraising figure to date which reveals over £2,600 has been raised since January as the Trust attempt to boost the ‘Player Fund’.
