Malvern Town

By Andy Poole

Malvern Town returned to action with their first pre-season friendly fixture on Thursday evening, running out 2-1 winners over Stourport Swifts in a competitive encounter at the HDANYWHERE Community Stadium.

“I was very pleased with our night’s work,” said manager Lee Hooper at the end. “There were some good performances out there and I was happy with our conditioning and fitness levels.”

“We had some great phases of play, but at the same time, we’re only three training sessions and one match in, so there is plenty still to work on and improve upon.

“The lads have returned fit and determined to work hard and I am pleased with where we are at this stage.”

For Hooper, it was his first game in sole charge after Dene Whittal-Williams stepped down to take up a new role within the club.

He had new assistant manager Phil Preedy alongside him in the dugout for the first time.

“Phil brings great energy with him and the lads are already buying into him and what he’s all about.

“It was nice to start with a win; we’re loving football right now and the players are buzzing.

“We also enjoyed having the fans back in the stadium; their presence certainly gives you that bit extra and to see them again was magic.”
