Torquay United have made a cash bid for a home-based striker, with head coach Gary Owers also offering a short-term contract to French trialist Guy Gnabouyou.
Gnabouyou, 27, a former France Under-21 international, scored twice in Tuesday’s 4-3 reserve friendly defeat at Cheltenham Town, and he has been training with the Gulls for the last ten days.
Owers reported that the former Marseille, Orleans, Sliema Wanderers (Malta) and Inter Turki (Finland) player is thinking over the offer of a deal until the New Year.
“He did OK at Cheltenham, he scored two goals, which is something that we are in need of at the minute, and on that basis we have made him an offer of a short-term contract,” said Owers.
“He’s mobile, athletic and quick and, looking at his background, it looks like he can finish.
“He’s gone back to France, and he hasn’t agreed terms yet, but that is ongoing.”
Owers also revealed that he is chasing a better-known player, believed to be with one of United’s National League rivals.
“The money is down, and the ball is in the court of the club which has received the offer,” said the Gulls’ boss.
